Outstanding! got the NeXt with Version 3.0 black/white screen. I wonder why this computer was not more successfull…? anyway thx for this emulation!

  3. Klaus says:

Thanx very much for this great work! I almost despaired installing the original .iso with VMware, because the buggy mouse driver wouldn’t let me complete the installation.

    However, I have two questions:

    1. When I try to change the screen resolution of the NeXT-System to 1280 x 1024, the system won’t restart properly: All I get is the start screen and then the system automatically restarts again ad infinitum. What is the problem here?

    2. How can I get to the start prompt with “name: …” and “password: …” where I can change from “root” to “me”? When I log out and start again, the system bypasses the entry prompt and starts without asking the password.

    Thanx for your consideration!
    Klaus

      Thanks for your response))

      1. Hm. On which version of VMWare and on which host system you have that problem? I’ve just tried and there’s no such bug on my system…
      2. Sorry, I really don’t know.. maybe you need to find something like UserManager in NextStep settings…

  4. Klaus says:

Thanx for your reply. I solved the password-problem in the meantime. However, the screen resolution problem remains.

I am using VMWare Player 3.01 on a Win XP (Service Pack 3) System. I read that the VMWare Display Driver 1.1.1 solves the problem, but I can’t get it installed. The maximum resolution I achieve is 1024 x 768, but the mouse driver will still only operate within the 640 x 480 field, although I have changed the resolution for the mouse driver as well (the program won’t save the changes permanently).

I’ve realized; I need to find the time and reinstall NextStep with a new video driver, it was upgraded a few months after I made this image..

A little late, but I was able to go past VGA with this installation guide; it provides links to all the driver floppies, and I downloaded an image of NeXTSTEP from teh torrentz: http://jonandnic.wordpress.com/2008/06/26/installing-nextstep-33-on-vmware-6/

I have VMware Workstation 7. I can’t reset my resolution at all, even using “expert…”. When I try and restart it goes to infinite restart.
